Artur Beterbiev defeated Dmitry Bivol by majority decision, becoming the first undisputed light heavyweight champion of the four-belt era in a rare showdown between the division’s top two fighters.
With this victory, Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs), who held the WBC, WBO, and IBF titles, claimed the WBA belt as well, though his knockout streak came to an end. Known as boxing’s only champion with a 100% KO ratio before the fight, he went the distance against Bivol, marking the first time he didn’t score a stoppage. Beterbiev has held a title at 175 pounds since 2017.
The fight was highly anticipated, as there hasn’t been an undisputed champion at light heavyweight since Roy Jones Jr., who relinquished one of his belts in 2000 during the three-belt era.
Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs), who had successfully defended his belt 12 times before facing Beterbiev, now takes his first career loss.
